About A2Z Video Tools

What this is

A2Z Video Tools is a small collection of video utilities that run in your browser, alongside written explanations of how video formats, bitrates and codecs actually behave. There is no account, no upload and no subscription. Open a page, use the tool, close the tab.

Why it exists

Most of the questions people have about video come down to arithmetic that nobody wants to do by hand. How big will this be? What bitrate fits under the limit? What height keeps the shape if the width changes? These are answerable in one line of maths, and yet the search results for them are full of pages that want an upload, an email address or a subscription first.

The other half of the problem is that a number without an explanation is not much use. A calculator that says 183MB and nothing else leaves you no better placed next time. So every tool here explains its working, and the articles go into the parts that do not fit on a tool page.

How your files are treated

Two of the tools read a video file. Both do it entirely in your browser, using the same playback engine the page itself uses, on a reference to a file sitting on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, because there is nowhere for it to go: this site has no upload endpoint at all.

That is a stronger statement than a promise not to look at your files, and it is why those tools are built the way they are. The privacy policy sets out what the site does collect, which is very little and none of it about your videos.

Where the line is

These tools are for content you own, content in the public domain, or content you have permission to use. Nothing here is designed to get around a platform's restrictions, a paywall, an access control or a technical protection measure, and nothing here will help with that.

That is a deliberate position rather than a legal disclaimer bolted on afterwards. It is set out in full in the copyright policy, and it shapes what does and does not get built: it is the reason the articles about saving video point at official export features and open licences rather than at workarounds.

Independence

A2Z Video Tools is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any platform mentioned on this site. Where third-party platforms are named in the articles, it is because the subject requires it, not because there is any relationship to describe.

The app

Black Hole A2Z is a separate Android media utility from the same developer. It is not required to use anything on this website, and the website does not depend on it. The app page explains what it does.

Who publishes this

A2Z Video Tools is published by Zaher Khan, an independent developer. There is no company behind it, no team, and no investors. Stating that plainly seems better than the usual vague we, which tends to imply an organisation that does not exist.
